Coverages
What we place, and the Florida catch on each one.
Six lines of coverage. For each, here is roughly how it works and the one thing about it that is specific to living here. This is general information, not a description of any policy you would be issued.
Homeowners
Home Insurance
A homeowners policy covers the structure of your house, the things inside it, and your liability if someone is hurt on your property. In Florida, what you pay and whether you get offered a policy at all often comes down to the roof.
Parts of the coverage
- Dwelling and other structures
- Personal property and contents
- Personal liability and medical payments
- Loss of use if the home is unlivable
Auto
Auto Insurance
Auto coverage pays for damage to your vehicle, injuries, and your liability after an accident. Florida runs a no-fault system, so how the pieces fit together is a little different from most states.
Parts of the coverage
- Bodily injury and property damage liability
- Personal injury protection, required in Florida
- Collision and comprehensive
- Uninsured and underinsured motorist
Flood
Flood Insurance
Flood is not part of a homeowners policy. It is its own contract, written either through the federal NFIP or a private flood carrier. We compare both so you can see the real trade-off in limits and price.
Parts of the coverage
- Building coverage for the structure
- Contents coverage for belongings
- NFIP option, widely available
- Private flood option, higher limits possible
Umbrella
Umbrella Insurance
An umbrella policy adds liability coverage on top of the limits in your home, auto, and watercraft policies. It comes into play when a claim runs past what those policies will pay, which is the scenario that turns an accident into a financial problem.
Parts of the coverage
- Excess liability over home, auto, and watercraft policies
- Legal defense costs
- Coverage that follows you outside Florida
- Limits that usually start at one million dollars
Boat and marine
Boat and marine Insurance
Marine coverage protects the hull, your gear, and your liability on the water. Where and when you take the boat, and what you do with it before a storm, all shape the policy.
Parts of the coverage
- Hull and machinery
- Marine liability
- Personal effects and equipment
- Towing and fuel-spill liability
Commercial
Commercial
Business coverage ranges from a small package policy to layered property, liability and workers compensation. What most owners need first, though, is proof of coverage they can hand to a landlord or client.
Parts of the coverage
- Commercial property
- General liability
- Business income
- Workers compensation, where required
